St. Mary's Basilica is the most important church in Krakow after Wawel Cathedral. It is a priceless architectural treasure, which is visited every day by crowds of tourists and is one of the most recognizable places in Krakow.
From both towers of the basilica you can hear wonderful sounds all over old Krakow: four medieval liturgical bells and one modern bell and the beating of two clock gongs. A characteristic symbol of Krakow is the St. Mary's bugle call played by a bugle-caller. The complex of four bells and gongs of St. Mary's Basilica is unique on a global scale. An additional distinguishing element of St. Mary's Church is the main altar, which is decorated with an altarpiece by Veit Stoss. This is one of the most outstanding works of late Gothic sculptural art in Europe.
Distance: 38 min. walk from the hotel.
