The Auschwitz-Birkenau camp was the main and most famous of the six concentration and extermination camps established by Nazi Germany. It was created in 1940 and is a symbol of terror and genocide. Polish political prisoners, Polish Jews and representatives of other nationalities were sent here.
This place became the truest factory of death, whose purpose was to carry out the plan of the "final solution of the Jewish question". On January 27, 1945, the camp was liberated, and in its place a museum commemorating the cruel history of this place was created. The museum is mainly about conservation of post-camp objects, conducting scientific and documentary work and, above all, educational activities. In 2005, January 27 was established by the United Nations as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Auschwitz Birkenau camp has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
